Local tech help for small business and non‑profits.

I’m Garrett Wiedmeier. I run GMW Systems out of Everett, Washington. Websites, custom web applications, IT support and the cabling behind it all, for neighbors across Snohomish and King counties and the rest of the Pacific Northwest. Twenty-five years in IT. Same person on the phone every time you call.

About

Personal service is the whole point.

Personal service for custom technology projects is my specialty. A website refresh, a custom WordPress plugin, a network installation. Same shop, same person on the other end of the email.

Most of my clients are small businesses, nonprofits and community groups. Tight budgets, board members who rotate, owners who do their own bookkeeping at the kitchen table. The technology has to be quick to learn, cheap to run and built so the next person can pick it up.

Notice that every major provider is shoving you toward a self-service AI chatbot for support these days. Microsoft, Google, your hosting company, your domain registrar. If you would rather deal with a person who knows your setup and will pick up the phone, that’s me.

That said, twenty-five years of IT and yes, I’ve gone all-in on AI as a working tool. I built my own internal operations app (Central) and a fun inventory app (FridgeStare) almost entirely with AI assistance. The architecture and the judgment are mine. The grunt work moves faster.

What that means for you: I know which AI tools are worth the subscription, which are hype, where they save real money on a small-shop project, and where they will quietly make a mess. If you want help thinking through AI for your own business, that’s a conversation I’m happy to have.

I’m based in Everett. I prefer working with neighbors. On-site visits around Snohomish and King counties are no extra trouble. For everyone else, we figure it out by phone, email and screen share.

What I do

Four areas, all of them connected.

Most projects pull in more than one of these. A new website needs hosting and email that work. A volunteer signup tool needs the network and database behind it. I do the whole stack so the pieces match up.

01 / Websites

Design, build and maintain

Creating, refreshing and maintaining websites. WordPress is usually the right answer for nonprofits and small business owners who need to update content themselves. Plain PHP or static HTML when WordPress is overkill. If your old developer disappeared and you can’t log into your own site, that happens a lot. I can help.

02 / Custom web apps

Tools that fit your workflow

Volunteer signup, ticketing and gate check-in, members-only portals, donor lookups, internal admin dashboards. Built in PHP, MySQL and modern JavaScript. Also ColdFusion CFML, which almost nobody will touch anymore but I will.

03 / IT & project work

Help desk, infrastructure, moves

Twenty-five years running IT teams, data centers and major office moves. Backup and disaster recovery. Email and account migrations. New nonprofit board needs to figure out the donor database, the shared drive and who has the keys. I’ve done versions of all of that.

04 / Networks & cabling

The unglamorous foundation

Cable runs, switches, firewalls and Wi-Fi. I started doing this in the 1990s. Cables haven’t changed much. Everything sitting on top of them sure has. I’ve wired event venues, branch offices and the occasional barn.
